So we are continuing our series on my favorite productivity hacks. So what I’m going to talk about today is not a productivity hack. But it is something that will help you combat burnout. It’s something that will help you be resilient. It’s something that will help you work. And it’s something that will help you overcome challenges when you have to get really, really clear on what you want. And that’s having clarity in your business.

How I Got Clarity
About a year ago, I thought I knew what I wanted in my company and in my life. So I tried a bunch of stuff. Some of it worked, some of it didn’t. And some of it just forced me to get really clear on, “Wait a minute, what do I actually want here?” I realized that I was doing some things or I was trying some things because I thought it’s what I was supposed to be doing but it wasn’t what I actually wanted to be doing.
That forced me to sit my butt on a meditation pillow and journal and be reflective because this is not one of those things that you can always think your way into. Sometimes you have to intuit your way into it, intuit your way into it. And I had to like be like, “Whoa, wait a minute, what do I actually want here? If it’s not about money and paying bills anymore, then what is this about?”
How To Get Clarity In Your Business
And right now for you, if it is about money and paying bills, because that’s the stage of your life that you’re in, awesome, that’s fine. I had to have a financial come to Jesus. And that’s what my financial come to Jesus sounded like. And sometimes you need that type of energy. But if you’re past that, which I know a lot of my clients are moving past that, then it becomes about something different. It becomes more about how you want to live your life.
And when you start getting clarity around those kinds of things, then you start to have vision. This is more about how to figure out what that vision is.
I spend a lot of time actually in a more reflective mode and getting connected so that I know I’m moving on the right track, so I know I’m doing the right things. And when you’re clear on that, that’s where you get energy out of nowhere. Sometimes people are like, “How do you get so much done? How do you not burn out?” Well, I really freaking love what I do and I’m on a mission.
You Need A Mission
So in that sense, when you realize your energy comes from your mission and your vocation, and your purpose and what it is you’re trying to accomplish in this life, where you have a hell of a lot more energy, you’re excited by what it is that you do. You don’t get as bored as easily either. In fact, I’ve learned that boredom is a distraction and sometimes it comes in when you’re scared to do something but that’s a whole podcast episode for another time.
I think that was one of those things that this time last year I was trying to find the answers to that but I couldn’t really do it. So I was just trying a bunch of stuff. And like I said, half of it worked, half of it didn’t. Actually, maybe like 75% worked and 25% didn’t. Because for me, and I’ve said this on podcast episodes before, I don’t really believe in failure because it’s still kind of shows you where to go, or how to adjust, or what to do.
But it forced me to get really clear on what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. And when you have that sort of clarity, that’s where you get a lot of energy, a lot of opportunity shows up because of that. And the more energy I have and the better decisions I make.
Clarity In Your Business Isn’t Just About Productivity
So it’s not exactly a productivity hack but I find that it does help you get really clearer on what move to make next. And I find that a lot of people really struggle with this. They struggle with, “What’s my next move. Where do I move from here?” Especially if you’ve already met some sort of a goal. Then that question tends to come up. But I find that people really struggle with that.
And like I said, it does require some reflection but once you get that kind of clarity in your business, it does help you be more productive because then you know what decisions to make and you know what actions to take. So clarity is a really, really big part of this process. And again, it’s why I have regular reflection time in my life. It’s also why I basically recommend it to everybody.
